All Practices are outside
All practice sessions for the recreational league will be outside on one of the outside courts
at one of our local schools. Please keep in mind that early in the season we will have
glitches with the courts, lights and locks. If you find anything different then what is
posted on this page please let the DFAC directors know right away so we get it working.
Weekend Practices at Desert Willow Elementary
For teams that practice on weekends at Desert Willow Elementary School, parents should park in
the North parking lot off Lone Mt and enter through the gate. The gate combination is
4805. The courts are located in the center of the school. Please be sure to
pick up any garbage that you may have left behind and lock the gate when you are the last one
out.
Horseshoe Trails Elementary (HTES)
Horseshoe Trails is a new school to our practice locations. The school staff would like
parents to park in the lower parking lot and enter the courts using the lower gates.
The Gate combination is 2050. The lock is kind of tricky. When you enter the
combination you must push the top of the lock down and then pull apart to
release. The lights
can be turned on via a button on the back side of the library. The lights are on a timer
and can be turned on anytime after 5:00pm and will turn off automatically at 9:00pm.
Please be sure to pick up any garbage that you may have left behind and lock the gate when
you are the last one out.
Entering Lone Mt. Elementary (LMES)
When entering the basketball courts at Lone Mt. Elementary, park in either the front parking
lot or the East parking lot and enter the courts on the East side of the school.
There is a pass through gate on the East side of the school going to the basketball courts
that can be used anytime even on weekends. Please be sure to pick up any garbage that you
may have left behind.
Lone Mt. Court Configuration (LMES)
Lone Mt. has a different configuration with the smaller baskets on the sides instead of 2 full
courts like the other schools, one with smaller hoops and one with regulation hoops. Due to
the configuration, we set up the practice schedule to reserve one court (closest to the parking
lot) for the teams using the 8 1/2 foot hoops and one court (furthest from the parking lot) for
the older teams using the regulation size hoops. Mixing the teams (younger teams sharing space
with older teams on the same court) does not allow the younger teams enough room to practice.
Desert Sun Elementary (DSES)
The lock combination for the gate on the North end of the school is 2050. The lock combination
for the gate on the South side of the school is 22 11 or 11 22. The courts are located
on the North side of the school.
Lights at Desert Arroyo Middle School (DAMS)
The light switch and DAMS is located on the building south of the gym. Walk in between the gym
and the building south towards the dumpster. Look to your right and on the North wall of the
school building you will see a button on the wall. Push the button to turn on the lights. They
are on a 90 minute timer and will turn off 90 minutes after being turned on. You may reset the
90 minutes anytime just by pushing the button again. If you come to the courts for your
practice and the lights are already on push the button before your practice to reset the lights
so they will stay on for your entire practice. If the lights turn off you will have to wait
about 5 minutes for them to cool off before they can be turned on again.
Lights at Black Mt. Elementary (BMES)
(The Old Sonoran Trails Middle School)
The light switch is hard to find. The light switch is located on one of the school buildings
South and slightly Southwest of the basketball courts. It is on the West side of the building
by the maintenance door. Push the button to turn on the lights. They are on a 90 minute timer
and will turn off 90 minutes after being turned on. You may reset the 90 minutes anytime just
by pushing the button again. If you come to the courts for your practice and the lights are
already on push the button before your practice to reset the lights so they will stay on for your
entire practice. If the lights turn off you will have to wait about 5-10 minutes for them to cool
off before they can be turned on again.
Outside Courts at Cactus Shadow (CSHS)
(The Old Black Mt. Elementary School)
The main gate off of 60th Street will remain open. Parents can park in the parking lot and
walk to the courts.
Lights on Timers
A reminder for those teams that practice after dark and use the outside lights. The lights
were put in by the school district and are on a 90 minute timer. This means that once
you push the button to turn on the lights they will go off in 90 minutes. If the go out
they must completely cool off before they will come back on which takes 10-15 minutes.
You may reset the timer at anytime for a new 90 minutes. Most teams practice from
5:30pm - 7:00pm and from 7:00pm - 8:30pm. This means that the first groups usually
turns on the lights when they start the practice at 5:30pm. If your team is in the
second group it would be a good idea to push the on button when you show up for your practice
before the lights go out so you don't have to wait for them to cool off before you can turn
them back on. Then if you reset the timer before 7:00pm, at some point during your
practice hit the button again so that they don't go off before your practice is over.
The lights will turn off automatically at 9:00pm even if there is time left on the 90 minute
timer.
