DFAC Basketball FAQ's

    1. What does the registration fee include?
The registration fee includes all basic expenses for the year.  This includes uniform, pictures (Winter season only), trophy, secondary insurance and all operating expenses.  Registration fees also help to pay for all essentials needed in running the basketball program including equipment, storage fees, medical supplies, league insurance, referees, cleaning, printing, office supplies and upgrading and maintaining game and practice facilities.

    2. Can I participate in running the basketball program or another role within DFAC?
Absolutely.  DFAC is always looking for volunteers to assist with all aspects of the program.  All we ask is that you enjoy supporting kids and appreciate the value of athletics in the development of our youth.  You can email us at [email protected] or leave a message on the Hotline (480-488-8485).

    3. When are practices and games?
Practices are most commonly on Monday through Friday nights.  The exact night is dependent on the coach.  Each coach draws for his opportunity to select a practice night and outside court at a preseason Coaches Meeting.  Some recreational coach's schedule two practices each week.  In this case, the league requests them to identify one practice as primary to support players who cannot make two practices each week.  Most games are played on Saturdays during the Winter Season and weeknights during the Summer Season.

    4. Can I pick my coach?
The size of the league prevents us from being able to manage your request.  All teams will be selected via a league draft.  Requests cannot be accepted for specific coaches or to be placed with certain players or friends.  There would be too many to accommodate.

    5. I am registering late, but a particular coach said that I could be on his/her team. Is this acceptable?
We believe the fairest policy is to fill teams on a first-come, first-serve basis.  The coach isnít always knowledgeable of who has already registered.  Your best chance to get on a team is to register on time.  In rare exceptions, we will ask a coach to try and find players if we are trying to fill a team at the last minute.  In general, your registration will be processed in the order it was received.

    6. Can I request to play with another player for carpooling, etc.?
The size of the league prevents us from being able to manage your request.  All teams will be selected via a league draft.  Requests cannot be accepted for specific coaches or to be placed with certain players or friends.  There would be too many to accommodate.

    7. Did registration fees increase this year?
Yes.  We did raise registration fees $10 per player to help offset the increased costs in facility usage fees and higher insurance costs.  The registration fee includes all basic expenses for the year.  This includes uniform, pictures (Winter season only), trophy, secondary insurance and all operating expenses.  On a side note if we do not get more volunteers to help run the league, we may be required to pay for more services in the future including a paid Office Manager position.  DFAC actively solicits your involvement to help keep this from happening.

    8. Why is basketball registration so early?
To help make the league run smoothly for all involved we need this time to get players registered and get a "heads up" on the number of coaches needed to fill teams, set up player evaluations, organize the league draft, order needed equipment, set up a game schedule at the school gyms, order uniforms, plan practice schedules, get volunteers needed to help with gyms setup and line up referees for games.

    9. Are DFAC Board members paid to provide this service?
All DFAC board members are volunteers who have a full time job outside of DFAC.  We realize that your specific situation or question is important to you, but please realize these members are dealing with close to 700 players and their parents and cannot always support your request.

    10. As a parent, do I have a responsibility to my childís team?
We hope that all team members will participate in making the most of the basketball season.  Please offer to assist your coach, even if not asked.  There are many roles on a team that can be fulfilled, such as, snack coordinator, team mom (or dad), team manager, etc.  You also have a responsibility to communicate with other parents and help workout issues that may develop through the season.  Board members are available to provide guidance to team members based on their experience.  Players (and Parents) are asked to understand that a weekly commitment to practice is essential.  We expect all participants to attend weekly practices as well as all games.  If you know in advance that you are unable to attend practices on a certain day/night please note that under "Special Considerations" on your registration form when you sign up.

    11. How will teams be formed?
The teams will be formed via a league draft.  Coaches will select their teams and thus requests cannot be accepted for specific coaches or to be placed with certain players or friends.  There would be too many to accommodate.

    12. I have two children who are in the same age division, can they be on the same team?
Yes, they will be placed on the same team unless otherwise requested.  We will try to catch all these situations, but it would be helpful if you note this under "Special Considerations" on your registration form when you sign up.

    13. Can my child play up in a higher age group?
Yes, you can request that your child be moved up to a higher age group.  Note this in the "Special Considerations" section on the registration form.  For this request to be accepted we usually ask that the parent of that child coach the team.  Not all requests can or will be made but we will attempt to do our best.  Any requests to play up must be made at the registration.

    14. Are there a maximum number of players for this league?
There are gym limitations for games during the season so we do have to cap off registration.  We will take the children on a first sign up basis.
