What is a concussion?

Per the CDC, a concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury (TBI) caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head that can change the way in which your brain normally works.  Concussions can also occur from a blow to the body that causes the head to move rapidly back and forth.  Even what seems to be a minor bump or blow to the head can be serious.  Concussions can occur in any sport or recreational activity.

Baseline Concussion Testing

Desert Foothills Athletic Club is proud to again team up with Banner Concussion Center to offer two types of concussion assessments. Please click on the test name below for more details and the required Consent for Medical Screening form:

ImPACT Computerized Neurocognitive Testing - July 25:  This is an interactive, computerized baseline test that objectively measures your athlete's processing speed, memory, reaction time, and visual motor skills.  Your athlete may have taken this test before.  It takes about 30 minutes, and the cost is $15.

BrainStamp Baseline Screening
- August 16:  Your athlete will undergo a series of three assessments - ImPACT Computerized Neurocognitive Testing, Concussion Balance Test (COBALT), and a vision gaze stabilization assessment.  The cost for this testing is $25 and we allow 90-minutes for the complete testing.

Due to brain and physical development, it is recommended that athletes ages 11-14 be reassessed annually, and ages 15+ every 2-3 years.
